Mutirikwe Dam

Mutirikwe Dam is the highest concrete arch dam in Zimbabwe after Kariba, and its storage capacity ranks second after Tokwe Mukorsi. It is the prime water storage source for irrigation on the large lowveld estates to the south, with the water being released down the river and diverted into the Triangle Canal at Nyajena Weir.

The dam site was ideal for a concrete arch, with massive sound granite exposed on each flank of the narrow gorge.

Gates 1m high were added to the free overflow spillway on the dam crest in 1976 to give an increased storage capacity.
