The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) is pleased to advise the public that it has, with effect from December 1, 2015 reduced raw water tariffs for irrigating farmers as follows:
Category | New Tariff
(US$/ Megalitre) |
Old Tariff
(US$/ ML) |
Megalitre in litres | Megalitre in drums |
A2 Farmers | 5.00 | 6.82 | 1 million | 5000 |
A1 Farmers | 3.00 | 5.00 | 1 million | 5000 |
Communal Farmers | 2.00 | 4.50 | 1 million | 5000 |
These new tariffs are aimed at improving the easy of doing business in the country and are expected to trigger an increase in the uptake of raw water in various dams around the country.
The new tariff structure is aimed at boosting food security in the country especially in times of climate change as more farmers are moving to irrigation as a viable agricultural practice.
Increased uptake of raw water will allow ZINWA to mobilise resources for the maintenance of existing dams and the completion of ongoing water infrastructure projects.
