The dam is being built at the confluence of Tokwe and Mukorsi Rivers in Chivi District, Masvingo.
The dam’s name comes from the two rivers.
Upon completion, Tokwe-Mukorsi will become Zimbabwe’s largest inland dam with an 89, 2 metre high dam wall.
The purpose of the dam is to provide irrigation water to the Lowveld sugar estates and surrounding communal farmers.
Tokwe-Mukorsi Dam also has the capacity for hydro-electric power generation and can generate six megawatts.
Construction of Tokwe-Mukorsi Dam is being done by Italian company Salini-Impregillo.
