Location and capacity
With a capacity of 269 mega litres, Sebakwe is one of the biggest inland dams in Zimbabwe. It is situated in the Midlands Province across Sebakwe river, 44km south-east of Kwekwe.

Year of construction and purpose
The dam was first constructed in 1957 and at that time, it was the second largest dam in the country. In 1986, further construction saw the dam’s height being raised to its current 47 meters. Water is released from Sebakwe dam to Cactus Poort dam which supplies Kwekwe Municipality, Zisco Steelworks and Redcliff town. Sebakwe dam is also the main source of water for Sable Chemical Industries, Munyati Power Station and a number of irrigators.

Structural information
Sebakwe dam consist of a 38.8m high round-head concrete buttress. The left bank abutment is supplemented by a small saddle embankment. The dam wall is 47 meters high and 3kilometers long.
